Discover the region

De Paellepelhoeve is situated in the beautiful and quiet Dender valley. With natural reserve De Gavers and the ‘Vlaamse Ardennen’ nearby, there is no lack of green environment. This region invites you to be explored slowly, on foot or by bike. For cycling fans, the region is certainly no stranger. Ninove is the traditional arrival place of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. From here you can quickly set off for both flat stages along the Dender river and the typical gaiters such as De Muur and De Bosberg.

But there is of course much more to see in our region. Ninove, for instance, has three different types of water- and windmills, including the Fonteintjesmolen in Meerbeke, the Wildermolen in Appelterre and the ter Zeven Wegen mill in Denderwindeke. This variety of mills is unique in Flanders. You can visit the mills by appointment.

Also worth visiting is the iron pedestrian bridge in Pollare. The most beautiful part of the Dender valley is in our region, between Ninove and Geraardsbergen. This unique piece of heritage was listed in 1987 because of its value in terms of iron architecture and industrial archaeology.

Walking

The surroundings of the Dendervallei are a true paradise for hikers. Not only are we close to the long-distance route GR5A, also in and around Ninove there are a lot of walking possibilities. We give you some suggestions in our neighbourhood.

Cycling

Our region is home to many great races. Sporty and recreational cyclists will certainly enjoy themselves here. From flat rides along the Dender to the tough hills of the Tour of Flanders, all easily accessible from the Paellepelhoeve.

Cities

Those who love cosy little towns will certainly find something to their liking in our region. Ninove itself is absolutely worth a visit. With the Abbey church, the Koepoort, the ‘Liberale Kring’ and the old city hall, there are many special buildings in the centre. But Ninove is also known among beer lovers because this is the city of the Witkap Pater, a delicious beer brewed in the Slaghmuylder brewery, which by the way has been in existence since 1860!

Only 15 km from Ninove lies beautiful Geraardsbergen, the city of De Muur, the mattentaarten and its own Manneken Pis, the oldest in Belgium. Moreover, from the Paellepelhoeve you can easily reach Aalst, Dendermonde and Ghent. For citytrippers there is really no lack of possibilities.
